Strangers’ Day

A

Upper East Side, Manhattan

I try not to visit the past too often. I try to focus on the future. But there’s some people that I only get to see when I visit past.

I told myself that I would just pop in, I wouldn’t stay too long. But once I got there, I couldn’t bring myself to leave.

Dad gave me a big hug with a grin. Grandpa said it was nice to see me again. My cousin asked, “what’s it like to be 41?” My dog’s going crazy, asking if we can be lazy, and lay in the sun.

With tears in my eyes, I said my goodbyes and they watched me as I turned to go My dog by my side, he knew that I lied, when I said I’ll come back again soon.

Because “soon” is slowly becoming longer and longer. Even though I don’t know when, I know I’ll go back and visit again.

And cry. And cry. And cry.

Today, I have to look forward and not back. I miss you guys.
